CUPPING MASSAGE

Cupping massage is a therapeutic technique that involves placing special cups on the skin to create suction. This practice has been used for centuries in various cultures, including traditional Chinese medicine. The cups can be made of glass, bamboo, silicone, or plastic. There are two main types of cupping: dry cupping and wet cupping.

Dry Cupping:

In dry cupping, the cups are placed on the skin, and a vacuum is created by either heating the cups or using a mechanical suction device.

The suction pulls the skin, underlying tissue, and muscles upward into the cup. This is believed to help stimulate blood flow and promote healing.

Wet Cupping:

Wet cupping involves a two-step process. Initially, the cups are applied to create suction, similar to dry cupping.

After a few minutes, the cups are removed, and small incisions are made on the skin. The cups are then reapplied to draw out a small amount of blood.

This form of cupping is thought to remove “stagnant” or “toxic” blood and promote the body’s natural healing process.

How Cupping Works:

The suction created by cupping is believed to mobilise blood flow and promote healing by increasing circulation to the targeted area.

Cupping is often used to alleviate muscle tension, improve blood circulation, and reduce inflammation.

Some people find cupping helpful for conditions like back and neck pain, sore muscles, migraines, and respiratory issues.

What to Expect During a Cupping Session:

Preparation: The therapist will apply oil or lotion to your skin to create a good seal for the cups.

Cup Placement: The cups are placed on specific areas of the body. The therapist may leave them stationary or move them around for a massage-like effect.

Sensation: You may feel a tight sensation as the cups create suction, but it’s generally not painful.
Duration: Cupping sessions typically last for 15-30 minutes.

Potential Benefits:

Pain Relief: Cupping may help alleviate muscle and joint pain.

Improved Circulation: The suction is believed to stimulate blood flow.

Relaxation: Many people find cupping to be a relaxing experience.
